Father of pictorial carpet comes into spotlight again

TEHRAN -- The Arabzadeh Art and Cultural Foundation for Carpet plans to pay tribute to celebrated Iranian carpet weaver Rassam Arabzadeh during a ceremony which will be held at the Iranian Artists Forum today.

He is considered the father of pictorial carpet in Iran.
Born in Tabriz in 1914 as Seyyed Abolfat’h Zeidi-Latifi, Rassam Arabzadeh was acquainted with art beside his painter father Seyyed Arab.
He then entered a school of art in his hometown. After graduation, he left Tabriz for Tehran to continue his studies at the School of Iranian Classical Arts.
He was highly skilled at painting, weaving rug, dying, music and calligraphy, but he centered on weaving carpet innovating pictorial carpets.
Afterwards, he created many fascinating sceneries and images on carpets.
He passed away in February 1996.
His works are on display at the Rassam Arabzadeh Carpet Museum and the Carpet Museum of Tehran.
